Frenchy and the Punk

Frenchy and the Punk is French-born singer Samantha Stephenson and American Hardcore Punk veteran guitarist Scott Helland. Their music is flavored with a retro-80’s alternative vibe intertwined with cabaret and dark folk. Mainstays of Steampunk Festivals and Conventions since the early days of the scene, the dynamic duo has traveled across the US and in Europe performing their upbeat, theatrical and quirky live show.

Reminding one generation of Grace Slick and another of Siouxsie Sioux and Florence Welch, Stephenson sings in both English and French with a “powerful yet graceful Gothy heft.” Guitarist Scott Helland, a former punk rock bass player from the legendary Massachusetts hardcore bands Deep Wound and Outpatients, propels this eclectic duo’s sound with looped rhythms and melodic Rock, Surf and Spanish style electro-acoustic guitar licks.

In addition to the more traditional outlets, the NY-based duo has become an in-demand performer on the post-cabaret, mythic and steampunk scenes. Their engaging, unjaded live shows and unbounding onstage chemistry converts strangers to fans regardless of the setting. The prolific and fiercely independent duo has written and released records on their own label since 2005, directed and edited their music videos, created all their artwork and designs for their merch and toured the US, Europe and even West Africa. Their art and designs are on display at Gallery40 for the month of October and their art opening will be held upstairs in the Gallery before their performance at the 1915 Wine Cellar.
